About

Sculpting has been an essential part of my life since I was seven years old.  While I never took art classes for sculpture, finagling characters into a college photography project brought about the idea that my characters could be used for something commercial -not just for fun.

Where my characters will go in the long run, I don’t know.  The more places I bring them, the more I find out that people relate instantly to my creatures and caricatures.  Using my characters for advertising, digital scanning for 3D animation, or even characters for stop-motion animation — honestly, it doesn’t matter, I would love to wind up doing all of the above.

Clay Alchemist sculptures have been used for product illustrations on the Mac App Store and Boinx.com, notably mentioned by Michaels Arts and Crafts on Twitter, and featured on the Jars of Clay [Jarchives] blog.

Clay Alchemist: Jonathan Lopez

I'm Jonathan D. Lopez - sculptor, illustrator, and animator from Wyoming, Michigan.
I've been sculpting since I was ten years old, but only recently have taken up photography while taking college classes in order to become a better stop-motion animator. I now focus on sculpting rather than animation.
